I was so excited when I heard that Giorgio Armani was coming out with the Lip Maestro, a line of matte lip lacquers. You know I’m all about lipsticks and liquid lipsticks, so after waiting I finally got my hands on these! The Lip Maestro comes in 12 shades, ranging from nudes to deep reds. When I read the description, it kind of reminded me of the Guerlain Rouge L’Extrait. The Lip Maestro is described as a stain though, so it’s not completely the same.
The packaging of the Lip Maestro is almost identical to the lipglosses but with one major difference: the cap. It’s red instead of black In all honesty, I’m not the biggest fan of the red cap, it looks a bit cheaper to me if that makes any sense. But it’s about what’s in the packaging. Lip Maestro contains 6.5 ml and goes for around 30 euro. I think the price is quite reasonable for a product like this. The line has all matte finishes but some do contain glitter. The applicator is the typical doe foot and while it is ok to work with, I do prefer using a lip brush for a more precise line.
Ecstasy or 504 is a vibrant medium cool fuchsia. It’s full on pigmented and you just need a small amount to make it work. Lip Maestro is described as having a matte finish, but I find it not that matte, rather something between a cream finish and a satin. It still has a slight sheen to it. The texture feels interesting, it’s a bit creamy and it feels a bit silicony. The trick is to not apply too much product because there will be slight product build-up in on your lips. The swatch looks a lot more red than when applied to the lips. That’s because you don’t need that much of product. It does not feather or bleed and it has great staying power. As for staining the lips, it’s right on! It’s so pigmented without having to use layers and layers of product, even the slightest bit will already stain the lips and that I really appreciate about this product.
It sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? I really love it but it’s not my absolute big new favourite in the world. Why? Well, I think it’s the finish. This is personal preference, but the finish is just slightly off for me. It’s not matte but something else. When I think matte liquid lipsticks I think about Guerlain Rouge L’Extrait (yes, Guerlain fangirl talking here), they have the perfect matte finish that I’m looking for while the Lip Maestro are matte too if you blot them down a bit but in a different way. They also tend to accentuate dryer patches on the lips more and are slightly drying on me. Still, they are everything they say to be, it’s a great product but it won’t beat my love for the Guerlain Rouge L’Extrait! The reason that I would get more of both is because both lines have different shades, so watch out oh poor wallet of mine!
